Shades of Mint and Celadon

  • One of a Kind.

  • From my Green Necklace Era, 1998-2000. For a profile of my work ca. 2000, see this article in American Craft magazine.

  • I made this piece to serve as an element in the Green Necklace (see final image).

  • But somehow it wasn’t right. In the end, it seemed too long. I used a more compact version for the Green Necklace.

  • So I made it into a brooch which works beautifully on its own. But I didn’t finish it until last week, when I finally fixed the green dots in place.

Made with:

  • Late 19th century Venetian glass beads almost as small as a grain of sand. I used an antique lace needle to string them on fine nylon monofilament. As I used to sit and stitch, I would fall into a nice state of flow that made me lose track of time. Until the phone would ring1

  • Small wooden forms for the celadon “dots.”

  • A sterling silver brooch form I fabricated from cast sterling elements of my design plus commercial sterling wire, bezels and disks.

  • A nickel silver pin assemblage.

Weight:

  • Light.

Dimensions:

  • 3” long by 1 3/4” by 1/4” deep.

Additional Information:

  • I will sign my name to the back of one of the dots before I ship this brooch.

  • I will also refine a few areas and surface finishes.
