Japanese glass beads and antique French aluminum beads woven in Ndebele herringbone stitch which was probably invented by the Ndebele womem of South Africa. The technique was first documented by Virginia Blakelock, who published instructions for it in the late 1980s. There are other beading techniques that produce a herringbone-like surface-level pattern and most involve multiple threads. The Ndebele did it with one thread, which is all the more amazing to me.
Weight:
Ultra lightweight.
Dimensions:
2 1/8” long by just over 1/2” diameter, with a hold that can accommodate neck wires or chains up to 3/8” wide.
