Lighthearted and Fun.

  • One of a kind.

  • A necklace blending beads made or used in the United States, Europe and Africa.

Made with:

  • Antique Venetian glass trade beads in asymmetrical sizes and shapes. Some of the beads have imperfect surfaces marked by scrapes, pits, and chips. But overall, these beads are in very good condition for their age, not to mention their voyage from Europe to Africa - to the United States, and their use and wear within Africa. My guess is that these beads probably date to the late 19th or early 20th century.

  • Beaded beads I made 30 or so years ago, featuring tiny, antique Venetian glass beads in shades of celadon and mint green. These are some of the smallest glass beads ever made in the world. I wrapped and layered them over wood cores whose ends I finished with resin.

  • Czech glass beads in shades of lime and hematite.

  • An oxidized sterling silver lobster clasp, easy to open and close.

Weight:

  • Light to medium.

Dimensions:

  • 3/8” diameter by 19” long.

Additional Information:

  • Can be shortened or lengthened at no extra charge, depending upon the exact adjustments required. If either of these options appeals to you, just click “Contact” and send me a note. Allow 7 extra days before shipping.

  • As I mentioned above, most of the antique Venetian glass beads are irregular in shape and size, because they were handmade in Venice a long time ago.

This makes it extra-interesting to string them, because they do not always sit in perfect alignment. In fact, some of the beads sit in a very slightly lopsided manner. I think these things just add to the charm, and hope you will agree.

  • In addition, a few of the beads have visible surface defects including scrapes, scratches and/or dents. Again, these issue just add to the charm. But I want to be sure that you’re aware of them. I’ve done my best to place these beads towards the back of the necklace.
